I opened up 'A sense of place' as a collaborative project in my proposal for NTWRK, a three month artist takeover of the space The Exhibit in Balham.
My proposal involved leading collaborative pinhole photography workshops on the weekend of the 6th and 7th of February, culminating in an exhibition at The Exhibit, Balham, on Saturday March 5th 2016. Participants were asked to make an image with the camera they had constructed during the workshop.
How can we address the idea of place? The pinholes created reveal visual narratives about experiences and perceptions of particular places allowing those taking part an opportunity to bring memories and experiences to the collaboration.
Creating work with others becomes a process of exchange. A Sense of Place emphasises the creative process and an exhibition of work provides a shared purpose along with a public platform for expression. It’s also an opportunity for the wider community to engage with the project and view the work that has been generated.
