Wimbledon spring exhibition

The notion of abstraction has been pushed and pulled in the past year. The photograms exhibited at the Wimbledon spring show were part of this; presenting people - in a mode of artistic experience more adequate to the divided and incomplete subject of today. Here, I was influenced by a recent Kazimir Malevich exhibition of work and reading Nicolas Bourriaud’s Esthetique Relationnel.

Reflecting on the photograms, I decided rather than play with the actual image itself and obfuscate, I would think about some sort of viewing mechanism to engage with it; one which reinforces that cleaners as often ‘invisible’. Using 2D image seemed too rigid and not fluid enough, so chose instead to develop the ideas using film.
